商品敘述:

In March 2024, Dr. Fadlo Khuri reflected on nearly a decade of leading the American University of Beirut (AUB) through unrelenting crises. Lebanon was once again in turmoil. Its economy was deteriorating, its political system was paralyzed, and the conflict on its southern border was escalating. While the country faltered, Khuri faced a personal crossroads. The Board of Trustees'' leadership had informally asked him to consider a third presidential term through 2030-a clear vote of confidence. He anticipated formal renewal in the months ahead. Yet after navigating crisis after crisis, he found himself asking whether it was time to move on, and perhaps return to the U.S., where he had left a productive and fulfilling academic medical career. Only a few AUB presidents had completed more than two terms. The job was unrelenting-a role Khuri saw as both deeply rewarding and, at times, dangerous. He believed in AUB''s mission of excellence in education and community service. Under his leadership and significant restructuring, the university had stabilized and had seen a substantial improvement in its global rankings. But the role had taken a toll on his family life. His wife had begun wondering how much longer they would stay in Lebanon. And for the first time, Khuri found himself considering alternatives. He had always urged his team to "run toward the fire." But now, standing in that fire, he had to decide: Should he continue leading AUB through uncertainty, or step aside and pursue a new path?
